At Control Tech, we believe education is just as important as installation. That’s why we sat down with Chrissie Thompson, Program Manager for the Duke Energy SmartSaver Program, and Kendyl Phelps, Trade Ally Outreach Coordinator, to talk through their newest offerings for our Central Indiana customers in episode 2 of our podcast, Far From Robotic.
These programs aren’t just about replacing equipment, they’re about creating long-term savings, increasing efficiency, and lowering strain on the grid. And right now, rebates are bigger than ever.
What is the Duke Energy SmartSaver Program?
The SmartSaver program provides rebates for homeowners who upgrade their heating and cooling systems to higher-efficiency options.
The lineup includes:
- Central Air Conditioners
- Air Source Heat Pumps
- Geothermal Heat Pumps
- Mini Splits
With the latest expansion, homeowners converting from standard air source heat pumps to dual fuel systems, cold climate heat pumps, or geothermal units can now earn rebates ranging from $2,000 to $3,000.
Why It Matters
According to Chrissie, the program has three main goals:
- Reduce energy usage and keep costs down across the community.
- Support reliability of the energy grid.
- Reward customers for proactively upgrading before systems fail.
Clay Winters, Control Tech’s General Manager, points out another big reason to act sooner rather than later: manufacturer price increases and rebate deadlines. Many rebates end December 31st each year or when funds run out.
How Long Will These Duke Energy Rebates Last?
- Current rebates are approved through the end of 2025.
- Funds are first-come, first-served, so waiting isn’t always the best strategy.
- Federal tax credits and additional utility incentives (like those from CenterPoint) can often be stacked with Duke’s rebates.
How Customers Get Paid
One of the most common questions homeowners ask is: “Do I get a credit on my Duke bill, or real money back?”
The answer: real money.
Rebates are delivered as a virtual wallet link or a prepaid MasterCard/Visa card you can spend anywhere. (groceries, gas, restaurants, or wherever cards are accepted!)
Why Upgrade Now?
- Save $2,000–$3,000 instantly through the Duke Energy SmartSaver.
- Add federal tax credits up to $2,600.
- Combine with other utility rebates for maximum savings (up to $8,000+ total).
- Beat annual equipment price increases.
- Lower monthly utility bills with higher-efficiency systems.
